Vice President Vance has slammed CBS News' Margaret Brennan for her "crazy exchange" linking the Holocaust to free speech.

In a post on X, Vance responded to a post that included a clip of Brennan's interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on "Face the Nation" Sunday morning. Brennan questioned the secretary about Vance's recent comments about German history.

"This is crazy talk," Vance posted. "Does the media really think the Holocaust was caused by free speech?"

Brennan asked Rubio what Vance had achieved by meeting with the far-right political party Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader and saying in a speech that the biggest threat to Europe was censorship.

Rubio also questioned why allies would be upset if Vance used his freedom of speech to give his opinion on the state of European law.

Brennan countered Rubio, saying the vice president's comments were criticized because he was in Germany at the time of the controversial remarks.

"Well, he was standing in a country where free speech was being used as a weapon to commit genocide, and he was meeting with the head of a political party that has far-right views and some historical ties to extremist groups," Brennan said. "The context of that was changing the tone. And you know that."

"Well, I disagree with you... I disagree with you. Free speech was not used to carry out genocide," Rubio replied. "The genocide was carried out by an authoritarian Nazi regime that was also genocidal, incidentally, because they hated Jews and they hated minorities."
