Baltimore Orioles beat Tampa Bay Rays 22-8.
On June 18, Tampa Bay beat Baltimore 12-8, after the Orioles led 8-0 in Game 2. Then on Friday night—nine days later — later-the Rays opened the scoring with six runs in Game 2, but Baltimore came back offensively to beat Tampa Bay 22-8.
Baltimore became the first team in the American or National League to win by at least 14 runs after trailing by six runs, according to team data released by the Elias Sports Bureau. The Orioles have scored three or more runs in five different innings, the most of any team in a game this season, according to ESPN Research.
On a rainy night at Camden Yards, the Orioles started the offensive flood, one run shy of the team record since moving to Baltimore. Gunnar Henderson and Gary Sanchez each had four hits and a homer. Colton Cowser doubled three times. He and Ramon Laureano each drove in four runs.
With the Orioles trailing 6-0 in the second inning, Coby Mayo led the team with a two-run double. When he entered the eighth inning, Baltimore was up 20-8, and Rays infielder Jose Caballero was bowling. Mayo drove in his first career homer to complete the scoring.
"It's a great moment, whoever it is," Mayo said. "It's a great thing."
The last time the two teams overcame at least a six-run deficit against each other was in 2023, according to SportRadar. Both games also featured runs and were closer.
On May 7 of that year, Tampa Bay trailed 6–0 and defeated the New York Yankees 8–7 in 10 innings. On May 13, the Yankees came from behind 6–0 to defeat the Rays 9–8.
Baltimore's 14 extra-base hits (nine doubles, one triple, and four homers) set a team record since the Orioles began playing in Baltimore in 1954.
The game came after Tampa Bay had won by one run in a three-game series over Kansas City, and the Orioles had not allowed a hit in at least the seventh inning in three of their previous five games.
They had 21 hits in the game, the most in a game since June 6, 2021, according to ESPN Research.
